Fuse

Fuse, the Centre for Translational Research in Public Health, brings together the five North East Universities of Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside. A unique collaboration to deliver world-class research to improve health and wellbeing and tackle inequalities. Fuse supports projects across all translational research stages (D1-T3), although not clinically focused, rather with a primary focus on public health.

About Fuse

Fuse, the Centre for Translational Research in Public Health, brings together the five North East Universities of Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside. A unique collaboration to deliver world-class research to improve health and wellbeing and tackle inequalities.  Fuse supports North East researchers and partners from across all sectors involved in public health to carry out translational research.  Fuse is also a founding member of the NIHR School for Public Health Research (SPHR). We also work closely with the NIHR Public Health Intervention Responses Studies Team (PHIRST) and the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) North East and North Cumbria (NENC).

 

Researchers with an interest in Public Health Research are encouraged to join our network and will be supported by:

  • Advice and expertise from within our research programmes (Behaviour Change, Complex Systems, Early Life & Adolescence, Health Inequalities, Healthy Ageing and Translational Research which cuts across all) . 
  • Access to free research meetings which are a key opportunity for dissemination of research, dialogue about the implications for policy and practice, making new and strengthening existing contacts, and building a dialogue around research results and potential future projects.  Our research meetings act as a forum for knowledge exchange.
  • Having support with innovative methods and approaches to knowledge exchange, including novel communication methods such as an award winning blog, accessible research briefs for policy and practice partners, rapid response and evaluation service ‘AskFuse’, and embedded research in local public health teams.
  • Being able to draw upon Public Involvement and Engagement expertise within Fuse to ensure that it is an important aspect of their work from research design through to dissemination.  

Stage

Researchers are welcome to engage with Fuse during any stage of their research.  Fuse supports projects across all translational research stages (D1-T3), although not clinically focused, rather with a primary focus on public health.
