Newcastle University Sport Services signs agreement with Association of Colleges Sport.

Newcastle University Sport is delighted to announce that an agreement has been signed with Association of Colleges (AoC) Sport to become an exclusive North East partner. The partnership agreement will see Newcastle University provide sports facilities at both indoor and outdoor venues for the AoC regional tournaments, which involves 15 FE Colleges from the North East region competing in a variety of sports.
Liam Isaac, Partnership and Development Manager said; “This is an exciting opportunity for Newcastle University, a Top 10 ranked institution for sport, to support the delivery of sport in Further Education and strengthen our connections with strong college performance programmes. We look forward to welcoming students to our facilities very soon and wish them success in their competition.
Association of Colleges is the national voice for further education, sixth form, tertiary and specialist colleges in England. A not-for-profit membership organisation established in 1996 by colleges, for colleges making up almost 95% of the sector – transforming 2.2 million lives each year. AoC Sport is the membership organisation for colleges, leading the development of sport and physical activity in 16+ education. They strive to ensure sport and physical activity are essential components of college life, giving students significant advantages in education, employment and health. AoC’s vision is for every college student to participate regularly in sport or physical activity.
Ben Severn, who leads on sport development in the North East for AoC Sport said “We are thrilled to be partnering up with a university that has such a great reputation in both academics and sport. We at AoC Sport want to work with like minded institutions to give young people the best possible opportunities in becoming a student-athlete and starting them on their journey as a dual career athlete. After visiting the university and facilities we were very impressed and hope this agreement can evolve over the years to develop sport provision in the region at both Further and Higher Education.”
The partnership will additionally benefit Newcastle University student recruitment and FE students with aspirations to study at Newcastle University, who will have hear from the University recruitment team on the wide range of courses and study options. Furthermore, those FE students who compete at a performance sport level will have the opportunity to speak with key coaches and staff members from Sport Services Performance Sport team
