FutureMe

Becoming a FutureMe Tutor is an exciting opportunity. You will work closely with young people in the North East to provide consistent, constructive tutoring.

What is a FutureMe Tutor?

You will be part of a regional team delivering face-to-face tutoring sessions to students in Year 8.

North East Uni Connect Programme (NEUCP), a government funded project, runs FutureMe. Our aim is to increase the number of young people from target wards and underrepresented groups entering higher education. NEUCP involves all colleges and universities in the North East working together to promote higher education opportunities.

FutureMe Tutors work in NEUCP schools and support students in Year 8 through a structured programme of tutoring and engagement. You will be a positive role model and help raise their confidence and self-esteem. You will help students to believe that Higher Education can be an option. Tutoring involves small group sessions aimed at enhancing the student's foundational literacy skills. You will work approximately one hour per week during the spring and summer term of the academic year.

There are also opportunities for a small number of people to become FutureMe Associates. This will entail delivering workshops and sessions in local schools.

Your responsibilities

You will deliver face-to-face tutoring in school to students in Year 8. As part of your role, you may also have the opportunity to support in the delivery of other FutureMe events, online, in schools and on campus.

The programme was initially pioneered by the University of Exeter’s Centre for Social Mobility. The course content focusses on:

  • crafting accurate sentences
  • taking pupils through basic sentence structure on to more complex sentences
  • focusing on knowledge and accuracy

Mentors will be required to commit at least one hour per week.
