Fiona Campbell is a Senior Lecturer in Evidence Synthesis at Newcastle University, UK. She has 20 years’ experience in evidence synthesis and has been involved with the conduct and publication of reviews for NICE, HTA, WHO and the Cochrane Collaboration. She is the editor and founder of the Campbell Collaboration Children and Young Persons Wellbeing Coordinating Group. Her work has been used to inform NICE guidance for treatments for hypertension, obesity, excessive alcohol use, hospital errors approaches to increasing levels of physical activity and harmful behaviour in children. She has designed, led and published work on methodological aspects of systematic reviews including mixed methods approaches to synthesis, scoping, mapping and Evidence and Gap Maps, rapid reviews, qualitative synthesis. She is currently leading the evidence synthesis to support a systems approach to policy making (SIPHER). She has a track record in successful grant applications, building a strong network of collaborative links both in the UK and internationally. She established and regularly runs short courses on rapid review methods and scoping, mapping and evidence gap maps with colleagues at the University of Sheffield, as well as supporting teaching on mixed methods synthesis and qualitative evidence synthesis. She has a clinical background in oncology nursing, district nursing and health visiting and has worked in this capacity both in the UK and developing country settings.

Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching
Supporting the programme of graduate and post-graduate teaching delivered by Newcastle University including teaching on our postgraduate courses and the MBBS Medicine and Psychology BSc(Hons) degree. Each year supervising 2-4 dissertation students, as well as supervise medical students on research attachments. Undertaking confirmation reviews for PhD students and provide supervisory support. Fiona delivers teaching on the following programmes and modules

Short Course teaching
Designed and leads one short course as part of the Newcastle short course programme and another at the University of Sheffield. These courses require we remain updated on methodological innovations and draw on our experience of using these methodologies in practice. These also require coordination across a team to ensure successful delivery of the courses.

Fiona is often Invited to deliver tailored courses on evidence synthesis methods to different groups responding to the learning needs of those working in very different health care settings. These have been very rewarding experiences and require skills in leadership in order to ensure the right team is in place to deliver the courses.
