As we age, the “environment” that surrounds our cells changes, altering the activity of the DNA and affecting the molecules in our cells. We study what this means for our chances of developing disease, with the hope this knowledge will lead to better treatments. For this we combine genotyping, RNA sequencing, proteomics and metabolomics technologies with statistical genetics methods to investigate how the relationships between molecules and DNA are affected by ageing. As the amount of information we can collect now is staggering, our research requires the use of modern compute resources, together with the development of new software to put it all together.
