I am a Newcastle University Academic Track fellow in the Biosciences Institute. My work contributes to the Cells, Genes and Molecules theme.
Past positions
University of York, Department of Physics – Centre for Future Health Fellow, 2017-2019
University of York, Department of Physics – Postdoctoral research assistant, 2013-2019
Qualifications
DPhil Condensed Matter Physics, University of Oxford, 2014
MPhys Physics, University of York, 2009
My lab develops new technology across all aspects of microscopy, from the hardware e.g. building new microscope designs; software to analyse the images; and biomolecular probes and assays. A lot of these technologies are single-molecule techniques, where we can image the individual molecules of life at work in living cells. With these techniques and working with many excellent collaborators, weI have investigated transcription factors in yeast (eLife, Faraday Discussions, FEMS letters), DNA replication in E.coli (eLife), division in S. Aureus (eLife, Physical Biology), the Epidermal Growth Factor, immune signalling (FASEB) amongst many more.
I lecture on the first year BNS Cell biology module where I teach the biophysics lectures. I also lecture on the MRes Therapeutic Applications of Cell Signalling Pathways module.
I am always open to supervising PhD, MRes and undergraduate project students.
