Dr Julie Young
Lecturer in Nutrition Enterprise and Outreach
I am a Lecturer in Nutrition Enterprise and Outreach and Degree Programme Director for nutrition and dietetics. Besides teaching and research, my academic role includes supporting students in enterprise, employability and placement opportunities, and I am also an external examiner for other nutrition degree programmes.

My research has focused on providing nutrition education to children and adolescents in a variety of different settings. My current PhD students research includes:
- The effectiveness of nutrition education for healthy young men, and the development of recommendations for locally tailored nutrition education aiming to improve knowledge around health and nutrition, and to help reduce health and social disparities
- How effective are Serious Games in stimulating dietary behaviour, physical activity and well-being in children and adolescents
- Reducing free sugar consumption - an investigation into the effectiveness of current efforts and the implications of an inability to adhere
I am a member of the Prison and Offender Research in Social Care and Health (PORSCH) Network Management Group, as well as the Prison Food Network.
I am nutrition advisor for Nutritroops.com and I provide nutrition education/menu/recipe analyses for schools, local authorities and local business consultancy.
