Project description

Microalgae and cyanobacteria technologies capture CO2 from flue gases. The current commercial algae open pond systems suffer many drawbacks. They are expensive. Their infrastructure is problematic. There is a high risk of contamination. They have large land and water requirements.

Algae biocomposites can overcome these disadvantages. The cells are immobilised and protected from the environment. Photosynthetic ability is also enhanced via increase of mass transfer. This leads to higher CO2 consumption.

I will develop inexpensive cyanobacteria biocomposites that can last more than 1000 hours. They will be used for carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).
