Project description
My project will generate electricity from waste heat using the Leidenfrost self-propulsion phenomena. Leidenfrost self-propulsion was first discovered in 2006. The remarkable, unidirectional velocity of droplets have associated kinetic energy. This converts waste heat energy from surfaces into electrical energy.
I will explore the dynamics of droplets on various surfaces and configurations in detail. This fundamental knowledge will help us to maximise moving droplet kinetic energy. We will be able to use the best surfaces and configurations.
Based on this, I will design a working device for electricity generation as a proof of concept. Finally, I will use the fundamental results combined with the study of a prototype device to create the optimised device. This device will maximise the energy efficiency of waste heat conversion to electricity.
