Project description
This project integrates the latest technologies into transport infrastructure. These technologies include dynamic road charging, autonomous driving, and smart city data. This will reduce greenhouse gases emitted by road transport in half within about two decades. It will enable much greater passenger carrying capacities compared with traditional highways.
In the TEV (Tracked Electric Vehicle) system, vehicles drive autonomously in platoons at high speed (200km/h), with no overtaking. We will base the charging system on dynamic road charging. This leads to an endless range of cruising with small and cheap batteries.
We are carrying out extensive research on:
- dynamic power transfer technologies
- power demand calculation and optimisation
- powertrain architecture of TEVs
- the power distribution system of the TEV lane
We are adopting an approach of conductive dynamic power transfer. Hence, we have proposed various topologies. We are developing a prototype conductive dynamic Current Collection Unit (CCU) for TEVs. The novel CCU will dynamically transfer power from two 750 V DC conduction rails to the electric vehicle via a stationary-rim wheel.
