Project description
From the perspective of efficiency and energy, vehicular platoon systems are an effective tool for mass transport. Platooning involves linking vehicles in convoy. The vehicles keep a set distance between each other. We use two technologies for platooning:
- Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V)
- Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I)
These are combined with linear or non-linear control for vehicle distance and velocity.
Tracked Electric Vehicles (TEVs) are a recently proposed mass-transport system. In TEVs, the inter-vehicular distance is only 0.25 times the regular car length, when the car drives at 200km/h.
With the help of V2V and V2I, we can design a novel controller to tackle the inter-vehicular distance at high speeds for platooning systems. Communication structures and controller design in the vehicular platooning is the key to decreasing the inter-vehicular distance.
