The Careers Service provides access to a range of free online platforms and tools. These are exclusively for our students and graduates.

You can access support with your applications and interviews which use AI technology.

CV and cover letter feedback

CareerSet gives you access to AI-generated feedback on your CV or covering letter.

  • CVs are scored on key skills that recruiters look for, focusing on impact, brevity and style.
  • You can match your CV with a job description, to help you tailor it to a specific role.
  • Covering letters are scored on length, writing style and how well it is tailored to the job description.

CareerSet only provides feedback on PDF documents. CVs must be in a chronological format. You can request content in an accessible format from CareerSet when you log in.

Students

Log into CareerSet with your Newcastle University email address. Receive an authentication link and create an account.

Graduates

Use our Newcastle University graduate voucher code to log in. You can find this in the CV and Covering Letter Pathway and on the graduate homepage of MyCareer.


Video interview practice

Graduates First

Practice video interviews for free with Graduates First. You will also receive AI automated feedback via email.

You can also review your recordings after the interview and reflect on:

  • the content of your answers
  • your body language and tone of voice
  • how you come across on screen (which is useful for video interviews!)
  • what did you do well and what could have been improved?

How to use:

Log in and select ‘Video Interviews’ as your assessment package.

Choose either a competency or strengths-based interview. You can leave the ‘industry package’ blank.

You can request additional time (25%) when registering. If you experience any technical problems, contact Graduates First at [email protected].

Recruitment test practice

Practice a range of psychometric tests for free with Graduates First.

You'll receive a detailed report immediately after you have completed each test. This will include advice on your strengths, areas for development and how to improve your performance.

They also offer step-by-step guides to over 100 graduate employer's recruitment stages.

UK job platform for international students

Student Circus is an online job search platform dedicated to international students.

Search their platform for graduate job opportunities from employers willing to sponsor the Skilled Worker visa. Employers include KPMG, Deutsche Bank, McKinsey & Company, Land Rover, Siemens and many more.

To access these vacancies, register with Student Circus using your @ncl email address. 

You can also find Student Circus in MyCareer in the Resources tab in the top right hand corner. Select Student Circus - Student Access and then log in.

Graduates

Log into MyCareer and click on the Resources tab in the top right hand corner. Select Student Circus - Graduate Access and then register or log in.

GoinGlobal allows you to search for jobs, internships and employers worldwide.

You can use their country profiles for range of in-depth information, including:

China specific

Lockin China is the largest recruitment platform specialising in supporting students to find employment in China.

Use it to:

COBRA can help you find key information relating to your business idea and understand specific aspects of business. Explore their:

The Pay Index can help you find out:

  • what salary you could earn with your degree subject
  • how much your pay will be after deductions

Virtual internships

Forage offers you virtual internships in areas such as:

  • Law
  • Business
  • Finance
  • Technology
  • Marketing
  • Consultancy
  • Design
  • Engineering

These online programs are built and endorsed by leading companies, such as KPMG, Deloitte, PwC and Unilever.

Each contains a series of resources and tasks designed to simulate the experience of starting a career. They take around 5-6 hours to complete.

You can write about these programmes on your CV as achievements and add them to LinkedIn as certificates. Forage advises not to include them in your main work experience section.

EmployAbility

If you have a neurodivergent condition, mental health condition or another disability, you can access additional support from an organisation called EmployAbility. They can provide you with:

  • advice and support about adjustments for recruitment and the workplace
  • information about your rights
  • support with your application

The EmployAbility team will advocate for you with an employer to;

  • ensure you receive the adjustments you need
  • take stress and anxiety out of the process
