North East Jobs
Many Newcastle University graduates choose to start their careers in the North East. If you want to work in the North East, you can find links to local vacancies in this section.
Searching locally
Local newspapers are often a good source of vacancy information, for example:
- Evening Chronicle – has employment news and information about companies that are recruiting.
- Northern Echo – business section includes news stories on North-East businesses
Find local organisations on MyCareer - click on ‘search organisations’ under the Vacancies tab.
The North East Evidence Hub publishes information on the labour market in the North East. This includes employment statistics and trends.
According to the North East Local Enterprise Partnership, there are four areas of focus for growth in the region. These are: advanced manufacturing, digital technology, energy and health and life sciences.
Finding companies to contact
Not all vacancies are advertised. Many people create their own jobs through making contacts and networking.
Identify a company you'd like to work for you and approach them about possible vacancies. Make an initial phone call or email and then follow up with a CV and covering letter.
