Connecting our global alumni community

Latest update on the Annual Meeting of Convocation

13 November 2024

Convocation is a formal name that is used to refer to Newcastle’s alumni community.

Inherited as a tradition from our historic links with Durham University, the University continues to host an Annual Meeting of Convocation which gives alumni an opportunity to join discussions with the University leadership team about the latest developments and future plans.

Meeting of Convocation 2024

The most recent meeting was held in Newcastle on Saturday 13th July 2024 with 46 members in attendance in person and 18 online. The minutes from this meeting are available at: Meeting of Convocation minutes July 2024.

At the meeting, the Chair of Convocation, Nick Richardson announced his resignation from the role. On behalf of the University, the Vice-Chancellor thanked him for his work.

We are grateful to the Deputy Chair of Convocation, Clare Talbot-Jones who has agreed to deputise for the role of Chair until a replacement is appointed. You can find out more about Clare here.

The University’s Court will determine the process for the future chairing of Convocation at its next meeting in May 2025.  Alumni are invited to make any representations on this matter to Dr Colin Campbell, University Registrar [email protected]

Coming soon - Alumni Town Hall events

We know how much you value the opportunity to connect with your university and are grateful to the growing numbers who keep in touch and offer support to current students and recent graduates.

However, we are also aware that the number attending the Annual Meeting of Convocation is falling. To keep you up to date as much as possible throughout the year, we are therefore pleased to announce the launch of a series of online Town Hall meetings with the Vice-Chancellor and other senior colleagues, exclusively for our graduates.

Please look out for further details which will be shared with you very soon.

We would love for you to keep in touch and get involved, wherever you are based in the world.
